Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the attack left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
