'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game ended with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort from distance, and the defender quickly hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result completed an unbelievable recovery given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. In the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a next round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's volley from about way out going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right flank after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can believe you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It takes a tough attitude and attention just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at his former club and has rapidly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has shown that maturation for his team and nation, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including two matches fixtures against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

It has been quite the ride for the player from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he recalls, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "The decision proved quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on the Tube after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
