PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
